Today we will be blogging about how to install a KNK or key in knob lock for anyone who is a DIY handyman and would like to attempt this installation on their own. Please keep in mind that all responsibility lies with you in attempting this installation and any advice on our part is published in good faith to provide assistance.
Your friendly Cammeray Locksmiths would firstly like to tell you that if you are buying a KNK there are many type of functions that these locks can be purchased in. Some examples inlcude entrance sets, which are commonly found on apartment front doors in tandem with a Loskwood 001, vestibule sets, which are commonly found on storeroom doors, and privacy sets which are commonly found on bathroom doors.
Each lock function has it’s appropriate installation application, for example a prvacy set should never be installed to a front door as it’s not secure enough, the correct choice would be an entrance set.
Our tips in relation to installating a KNK is to measure accurately and drill all holes level to the ground, especially the latch hole. It’s most important to drill the latch hole level so that the latch can engage smoothly and offer maximum protection. Also note the size for the lock body, you might need to drill a smaller hole if it’s a cheap KNK from Bunnings, or a larger one for a high quality one such as a Carbine entrance set.
